A private Machu Picchu tour means the day belongs to your party. Your guide, your entry time, your train seats. Not a coach you joined because the Tuesday departure was open.

What I arrange before you fly
- The official ticket, for a circuit and a time. You will show it with your passport. The Ministry of Culture recommends a licensed guide; you will have your own.
- The train. PeruRail and Inca Rail both run Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. You can take a panoramic carriage or the most comfortable train on the line, when you want that and the date has space.
- The night. A hotel in Aguas Calientes if the entry is early, or a return to the Sacred Valley the same afternoon if the times allow it.
- Buffer. The railway is a single track and it sometimes pauses. I confirm the train times before you travel and I do not book your entry so tight that a delay ruins it. The plain version of the 2026 rail news is in is Peru safe to visit.

One way the day can run
This is a rhythm, not a package you have to buy.
- Breakfast in the Sacred Valley, then the train from Ollantaytambo.
- Aguas Calientes, then the bus up to the gate. The citadel is about 2,430 meters, lower than Cusco, which is why many people feel better there than they did in the city.
- The circuit we reserved, with your guide, for as long as that circuit allows. We do not invent a private sunset inside the ruins. We take the time the ticket gives us and use it well.
- Lunch back in town. Then the return train, or a second night if you want the morning to be slow.
Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are separate permits, limited each day. Ask early if a ridge walk matters. If it does not, leave it off. The citadel does not need a summit to be worth the trip.
Who it is for, and how far ahead
Couples, families, friends, a person traveling alone who does not want a group. If you are coming with children, read the family tour before you add a mountain permit. If the trip is a honeymoon, the honeymoon page is the wider shape around this day.
Reserve the entrance two to four months ahead. In June, July, and August, earlier. The booking window and the daily cap are spelled out in how many days you need in Peru. If a circuit you wanted is already gone, I say so in the proposal. I do not hide it inside a PDF.
